Our organisation
The Hutchinson Foundation is registered as a charity (no. 1112160) with the Charity Commission. It provides financial support and leadership training for young African-Caribbean males studying to become teachers. The Foundation’s objective is to expand the numbers of these teachers, thus increasing the provision of positive role models and influence to young black males. The idea is to help them to improve their life chances and break the cycle of underachievement and deprivation that has blighted the lives of young British black males for more than a generation.
The Foundation has a number of trustees appointed to administer the business of the Foundation. This includes the appointment of trustees, the representation of the Foundation on the University Committees responsible for the awarding and administering of bursaries, and all matters relating to the endowment of the Foundation, its fund raising and activity relating to the distribution of monies.
Universities who participate in our scheme enter into an agreement regarding the identification of suitable candidates for the scheme and the administration of the bursaries.
The Foundation is always looking for opportunities to expand the scheme, and enquiries are welcomed from teacher training institutions and on behalf of individuals seeking to enter the scheme. Whereas current activity is restricted to London, it is intended for this scheme to be implemented in other major UK cities.
Similarly enquiries are welcome from any parties wishing to assist in any activity undertaken by the fund.
